The University of Leeds is pleased to offer up to five full and up to three partial Maintenance Scholarships to successful applicants in the 2008 Overseas Research Students Awards Scheme (ORSAS) Competition. The Scholarships may be held for up to three years, subject to satisfactory academic progress. The Scholarships will pay a full maintenance award of £12,900 or partial maintenance of £2,500 for Session 2008/09.

Eligibility Criteria - Applicants must:
have applied for an ORSAS Award at the University of Leeds;
hold a degree which is equivalent to a UK First Class Honours Degree;
if awarded a full maintenance award of £12,900, must not hold another Scholarship which provides a maintenance grant;

Our client requires experienced Fire Technicians to work on Bonny Island.

The Job
This is a 3rd Party Contract Staff Position.

Purpose
To maintain, test and inspect fire protection/fighting equipment and keep updated records, thus ensuring that sound reliability, availability and integrity, is maintained in the Client’s Fire protection to cope with any emergency.

Responsibilities:
 Tests, inspects and maintains/secure all fire fighting equipment / fixed fire protection / fire trucks / rescue tools as per schedule and report any deficiencies for prompt attention.
 To safely refill and maintain all portable fire extinguishers and Self-contained breathing apparatus cylinders as per procedures/manual and work instruction.
 Assist to procure/provide fire fighting equipment for the protection of staff and property.
 Maintain and update all records for assets / maintenance / testing / inspection.
 To respond to any emergencies in IA, RA and community areas. Join the Emergency response teams in fire fighting in line with emergency response procedure.
 Maintain and make preparations for training on the fire training ground including provision of equipment.
 Participate / Assist in fire fighting training or drills for RA, IA & PHC.
 Assist in HSE induction and CSE training as and when required and maintain housekeeping of fire station in IA / RA and fire truck.
 To standby with fire truck & fighting equipment during helipad operation and respond to any eventualities accordingly.
 To carry out daily shift duty tasks or shutdown fire / safety equipment mobilization as per line requirement and to assist / facilitate in HSE walkabouts as and when required.

Qualifications required
 Candidate must not be more than 35 years of age.
 HND in Engineering or Physical Sciences with 1 year of mechanical maintenance experience and maintenance of fire fighting equipments.
 OR National Diploma in Engineering or Physical Sciences with 3 years mechanical maintenance experience and maintenance of fire fighting equipments.
 OR Intermediate certificate of Institution of Fire Engineers, UK with 5 years experience in fire fighting and maintenance of fire fighting equipments.
Valid drivers’ licence with minimum of 3 years relevant driving experience will be an advantage.

 Negotiate and arrange all aspects of third party vendor training and contract management, for all IT related training providers. (Includes identifying providers and conducting technical & financial evaluations).
 Carry out Course Directors role of coordinating all aspects of training delivered by vendor or consultant, including nominations, logistics and technical assistance to ensure training meets company standards and requirements.
 Evaluate training programmes provided by vendors & consultants and provide feedback to ensure continuous improvement.
 Provides input to monthly/annual training reports to management.
 Take part in in-house and inter departmental Health Safety & Environmental audits.

Qualifications required
 A degree in numerical sciences with possession of Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE).
OR A degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical/Electronics Engineering
 Minimum of 5 years experience in an industrial/engineering environment preferably with a period spent in the petrochemical industry, and at least 3 years spent in a training role, possessing strong supervisory and coaching skills.
 Candidate must not be more than 35 years of age
 IT skills in MS Office software at advanced level years
 A flair for Training.

• Approves the selection and appointment of nominated 3rd party caterers and suppliers.
• Formulate strategies relating to product development & food safety due diligence, cabin presentation and equipment logistics managing the implementation in line with agreed objectives.
• Approves the airlines food safety policy ensuring it is in line with changing legislative and business industry requirements.
• Initiates and completes the process of agreement contract signing off by 3rd party caterers working closely with Legal department as well as Ground Services Contracts manager.
• Prepares Direct Operating Costs and Overheads for In-flight Services department in agreement with Director of Customer Services.
• Responsible for adherence to defined budgets for In-flight Services Department ensuring actual spend is in line with set budget.

• Establish an interactive and working partnership with the LOS contractors at Senior Management level and Overseas Station Managers to ensure effective delivery of the onboard cleaning and onboard product services.
• Manages the adherence of all nominated 3rd party suppliers and contractors to all Virgin Nigeria Airways policies and procedures as well as their fulfilling of contractual obligations.
• Validates the periodic review of stowage allocations carried out on all aircraft by Interior Stowage Controller, highlighting opportunities to increase space and reduce weight in line with agreed objectives.
• Oversees the planning and management of audit process for aircraft cleaning, provisioning of cabin products, media and newspaper services.
• Oversees In-flight Services support of Virgin Nigeria Airways fleet expansion as well as introduction of new aircrafts and launching of new routes.
• Sets and manages objectives for In-flight Services department in line with the business strategies of the airline, ensuring expectations and accountabilities are clearly defined and understood.
• Evaluate resource requirements for the department in line with airline size, new routes and services, reviewing role profiles regularly and undertaking recruitment when necessary.
• Supports EIS of new aircraft as well as fleet expansion from an In-flight Service point as the need arises.
